Peñalosa loses in decision

Former world super flyweight champion Gerry Peñalosa failed to grab the World Boxing Organization-IBO light featherweight title from Mexican Daniel Ponce de Leon, ANC reported.

The older Filipino boxer Peñalosa lost by unanimous decision to the younger de Leon in the 12-round bout at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada Saturday night.

Peñalosa’s battle against the former Olympian de Leon was the main undercard of the "Fearless" fight between defending champion Marco Antonio Barrera-Juan Miguel Marquez showdown.

The classic match-up of age versus experience was obvious in the battle which saw the 26-year-old Ponce De Leon defending his WBO crown for the fourth time against the 34 year old Peñalosa.

Both fighters and Ponce De Leon came in at an exact 122 lbs at Friday’s weigh-in held at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
